Is this head lice?

Noticed that DS has some white bits in his hair...looked like white tiny balls in one cluster on the top of his head.

I have a nitty gritty comb (metal one) and have combed and combed through his hair this morning in the bath and washed each comb in water but no black or brown lice.

Was wondering if it was a flaky scalp but seemed strange that it was qhite ball type things on the hair strands but couldnt get any lice out

Use the nitty-gritty with conditioner. It won't do any harm if your son doesn't have nits, and if he does, you might just prevent a full blown infestation.

Nitty gritty designed for wet hair with conditioner. Nits are the lice eggs and are sort of 'glued' to the hair shaft.

The white casings of the nits stick to the hair. With your fingernails try to get one off. If they stick to the hair shaft then probably nits. If not probably dandruff. Any black eggs on the scalp at the back or round ears?

Did the white balls come away easily from the hair shaft?

If so they arent lice eggs(nits). Nits are firmly stuck to the hair shaft and have to be dragged off one at a time with either a very fine toothed comb or fingernails.

I prefer fingernails as I can precisely target one hair and not pull unaffected hairs. Its also strangely satisfying .

yes sorry did comb through with conditioner...he's had them once before and he was scratching and that's what made me notice, used the comb and got a couple of brown lice...this time no scratching and no lice but the white balls on the hair strands did looks suspicious

hulahoop

I fear if you're at a school where there are regular reports of 'nits' - if may just be an idea as part of a routine of using conditioner that when you do, you run a nitty gritty nit comb through and see what you get.

There's small - and around here grey and almost translucent - but you'll definitely know when they're there.

Wipe the conditioner encrusted comb off on white kitchen towel. If you get lots of tiny little black buggy things appearing - it be nits.

HTH

Im convinced it is eggs but Im bemused as to why not black/brown actual lice when I combed through...DS is so good and happily just sits in the bath...I feel like a mummy chimp!!!!

Have told him Im repeating tonight as well

decided it isnt head lice as no itching and I can comb the white bits out with a nitty gritty and wipe onto a tissue easily and there are no black/brown bits.

I think it maybe dandruff or flaky scalp so have some medicated shampoo will try that tonight and comb through again!
