Thick school tights

Sorry kinda random question but I'm looking for good school tights for dd in thick grey (wool or thick cotton). She has to wear skirts at her new school which she has got used to, but the mornings especially are getting chilly and very wet. She is 9. What ones are best for warmth, waterproofness, and cost including not ripping in 1 or 2 wears/washes.

John Lewis ones look as smart after they have been worn for two winters as they did when they came out if the packet. Warm but not itchy. Do them in light and dark grey. Worth the extra compared to eg supermarket ones as they last so well.

I agree with JL tights. Nice and comfortable.

But, tights are not waterproof. They keep a bit of damp off but if it is raining and she has to walk invest in decent waterproofs she can wear, I know more than one child changing into the skirt at school and decent shoes, again, change at school.

I like M&S ones. They seem to survive well. Like the ladies above with the JL ones I find them worth the mark up. My DD is super skinny so the important thing is that they actually stay up and M&S ones keep their elasticity at the waist so they do.

H&M are good. I agree that if she has a long walk, she could probably do with waterproof trousers as well

Thanks will def try jl. She isn't allowed to wear trousers but could try changing when wet though technically they should be in uniform travelling as well. She last wore these tights four years ago and m&s were pretty dire.

My dd has the thermal ones from m&s. We've just moved from Australia and she's never mentioned having cold legs so they must be warm.

I'm not against buying from supermarkets as a general rule, but for tights you definitely get what you pay for. Asda tights were misshapen and virtually unusable after one wash, but we've found M&S ones to be very good.

I like Countrykids. Buy from their website though as other people who sell them charge more (like ilovegorgeous).

DD has almost always worn tights in the winter (soon ripped a hole in the one pair of trousers she had). She is a bit of a tomboy, but tights have stopped her getting scabby knees on many an occasion!

John Lewis tights seem robust (though Waitrose were own-labelling tights in our supermarket and they seemed a bit different). Their navy tights didn't seem to stay as dark as I would like so DD is wearing a couple of pairs of school uniform shop tights (mega £), Pex (from Amazon) and Waitrose.
I guess each pair must be about 10-20 washes in without incident.

DD was always tearing the crotch/bottom area with the supermarket ones (and that's not a good look for a smallish child).

There are only a few more weeks until Easter (at which point we have to switch to dresses and sock from memory unless it is stupidly cold) so you could probably make do with just a couple of pairs.
