Which 'job title' is a parent volunteer in school?

Just a quick poll. I'd like to know what I can call myself on my CV as I volunteer in junior school as a reading group helper some mornings. I

I'm in the hall which is split into several reading groups, 'staffed' by one teacher and parent volunteers. I'm in charge of a small group of about 7 children.

Hopefully it might be useful to add to my CV.

What do you think I should word the title as, just 'parent helper' ?

Thankyou :)

Volunteer Classroom Assistant

I guess it depends on whether you will be relying on the school for a reference or the likelihood that a potential employer would contact the school.
It also depends on whether your qualifications tally with the title you put.

If your qualifications tally and there is little likelihood of the school being asked then you could put anything you like!

With the best will in the world it's quite hard to make much more of being a parent helper.

That's what I thought, newbieman Grin there's not an awful lot to it apart from supervising a reading session with a small group of children, but I'm hoping it will be useful for my CV in some small way.

LIZS title sounds right.

I think it depends on the job you are applying for and how major a part of your CV it is going to be. If it is a relatively insignificant part of the whole information I would just put it in the section after your work experience and qualifications, saying "I volunteer for 2 hours a week in the classrooms of a local primary school hearing children read". If it is highly significant, e.g. you are applying for TA jobs then Parent Helper is probably the term I would use, that's what we get referred to in the DCs school.

I have just applied (& got) for a full time TA position.

I put what LIZS said with details about what this entailed.

I started as parent helper, then had twelve years as TA. When I retired I continued in schools on a voluntary basis. One of my earliest 'readers' turned up again, seventeen years later when she was in her final year of Teacher Training! Our roles were reversed, as SHE needed to direct ME in the classroom.

If you have any particular skills or interests, make use of those. I taught recorder, percussion, keyboard club, computer activities, and touch typing groups.
