Applying for a sibling place at a diff school?

I I'm on a school rant todayWink
I have to apply for a school place for my dd2 this year.
I dislike the school my dd1 is at ( various reasons) and would like to move her to my preferred school. She would just start yr3 when dd2 started yr R.
Would I be able to put preferred school for dd2 as first choice with a view to moving my dd1 there too to start in yr3. I think they can accept more than 30.
Or should I apply for a sibling place at my dd1's current school then see about moving both?

Could you cope if then ended up at different schools?

Can you get DD1 on the waiting list now for the other school? If she can get a place by the Jan deadline, then DD2 would have a sibling link for her application.

How likely are you to get a place at your preferred for DD2?

If you could cope with different schools, I would
a) Apply now for DD1
b) Apply to your preferred for DD2
c) If your DD1 doesn't get a place then send to different schools, including appealing for a place for y3 as and when DD2 starts yR.

If you can't cope with different schools, then
a) Apply now for DD1
b) If DD1 gets a place by Jan then move her, if not apply to DD1's school for DD2.
c) try to move them both together later, but I would think this would be very hard.

There is no magic way of getting DD1 in the same school as you want DD2. It is about what places are available or if not available can you win an appeal.

You have till Jan16th 2015 to apply on time for your DD2 and frankly there is no guarantee that she will get a place at your preferred school. That is therefore your first question. What is the likelyhood of getting a place at the school. You need to look at the data on admissions to the school and see whether you are likely to get a place. Does the admission criteria say that siblings get priority. If it does then I would suggest that you urgently consider asking for a place at the school for DD1. If the school is full you should appeal the hearing for which should happen well before Jan 16th.If you get a place then that makes it far more likely that DD2 will get a place for September. If you do not get a place then there is probably more likelyhood of you getting a place for DD2 at the current school of DD1 as again the will be counted as a sibling.

Just assuming you can transfer to the preferred school is unlikely to bring a positive result and you need to plane this out.

Admission - sorry to contradict but I think the deadline is 15th January not the 16th. Just in case this affects anyone reading.
