Lochinver House - school bus

Hi,

My son goes to the Lochinver House school. There is a school bus in the morning but we have to do the afternoon pick-up ourselves in the afternoon. We found no close-by public transportations. To get home, we either call a taxi which costs us over 20 pounds, or walk 20 minutes to the bus stop and take another 40 minutes (at least) to get home.

This has created a lot of a lot of incoveniences!

Have any parents had similar experience and found a way-out?

Thanks

With respect did you not consider this before sending him there or have they stopped providing a bus they used to provide?

It's not really the school's responsibility and maybe they've found there just isn't enough demand to run an afternoon bus.

drive?

Thanks cantthinkofanewnameatall for your message! State schools do not usually provide school bus as students live nearby by default, whereas I thought private schools normally provide school bus as students' home can be more scattered on the map. Our son is our first and apperently we might be lack of considerations before making the final decision. (However I would be surprised to know parents who need school bus in the mornings but not evenings.)

Thanks elephanteraser. I see myself as one of the scary drivers so I don't drive...

I would imagine an afternoon bus makes less sense as, due to clubs, pupils will be leaving at different times. Whereas in the morning pupils all need to be there at the same time. Have you asked school the rationale?

Would some more driving lessons help? How about cycling?

I agree, more demand in the mornings.

Private schools provide buses more yes but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure there are suitable arrangements if they stop, you can't get a place on the bus as it's full or whatever.
I can see your predicament but you can't blame the school for it if they haven't just suddenly withdrawn the bus but even if they had it's only wise to choose a school you can reach in some other way in case.

Yeah... I talked to the school, and you are right the reasons are (1) boys all finish at different times and (2) the bus is used in the afternoon for the activities.

I was provided a lady's number who does school runs for parents, but it turns out she charges 50% more than a Taxi.

I guess I would need to advertise the job somewhere and try to get an optimised solution.

Thanks PatriciaHolm & cantthinkofanewnameatall for your kind replys.
