Advice needed on private schools in Worcester / Malvern area. Looking at a houses in Powick. Looking for primary for DS and DD but thinking ahead to Senior. Looking for well managed stable schools, not necessarily together, with high quality teaching as DD quite bright. Any suggestions?

Kings, RGS, Malvern all are senior schools with preps that feed directly and to each other. Kings and RGs are definitely selective so cater for bright children. There are a number of open days in October have a look on web sites for dates. You can also visit the schools at other times which will probably give you a better feel for the environment. All are well established and have plenty of history. They are very popular with professional parents. Each has its own merits so it really depends on what you are looking for.

Thanks so much. Coming from Scotland so all new for us. Picked up that a girls' school closed. Had thought of single sex for DD. Only heard of Cheltenham Ladies College in the locality but too far away. Any others of that calibre around area to look out for?

Fine with co-ed for DS. Any views on the feeder preps for Kings, RGS, Malvern? Looks like Kings and RGS both have 2. What is the difference between them? Intend to come and visit and do Open Days but good to get some parents views too.

Quality of teaching most important to us and overall leadership/stability of school. Don't want lots of changes of staff etc. Not too worried about facilities as long as they are okay.

A reasonable list of open days here . I have DC at one of the prep schools listed - PM me if you would like more detail.

Yes, St Mary's closed, apparently very suddenly (but that is second/third hand as I have no direct connection to the school). Parents I know wanting girls only seem to go for Cheltenham or Malvern St James. Both are predominantly boarding, and have a boarding school timetable, so even though they do take day pupils most girls seem to end up boarding at some stage even if they are fairly local.

My ds is at Kings Hawford - as you've seen, there is Kings St Albans and KH. KSA is on the same site as the senior school, and is the choir school for the cathedral. KH is on the north side of Worcester and is more outdoorsy as they have a huge site which they make the most of.
RGS have Springfield which is near their senior school, and until 2009 was part of the former Alice Otley school which was girls only. The Grange is then on the north side, and is a big site.
