DS now in Year 5 year 3 and 4 seemed pretty much the same so what will year 5 be like compared to year 4?

I think it's the pretty much the same but slightly increased expectations re things like behaviour, independence, homework etc.

Of course the new Primary curriculum may throw some other things into the mix ...

Surely they must do more than year 4?

Well they obviously are expected to work at a higher level than in Year 4. But that higher level is child dependent. I just meant I don't think your child will see much of a difference - just a natural progression - more like the difference in work from the autumn term in Year 4 to the spring term. It's not like the jump between (e.g) Reception and Year 1 where the whole pattern of teaching changes.
