I Forgot to pack 5 year old DD's trainers for PE so she was told to pick up rubbish from the school field instead - am I right to be angry??

I feel this is more akin to a punishment. DD said she had been given a really important exciting job to do instead of PE but to be honest I am angry about the whole thing. Would you be angry too or am I being a bit silly?

Your DD didn't see it as punishment, so talk to the school first before saying anything to her, see what their reasoning was. I'm sure you can do at least part of PE without plimsolls.

I'd be a bit peeved but if my dd wasn't too fussed I'd probably leave it for now. If it happened again I'd ask for an explanation, nicely, from the teacher to put my mind at ease

Personally I think I would be a bit annoyed that she wasn't allowed to join in with the other children. I mean, she is only 5, its not like they are running marathons or anything that probably can't be done in school shoes.

Better than when I was at school and we were forced to wear the manky lost property shoes and clothes. One time I was on my period and forgot my gym kit and had to wear a mud splattered b.o ridden rugby shirt and boys football shorts and boots that were far too small for me.

I would be miffed but as she isn't bothered I wouldn't make a fuss - were they doing PE outside, so she couldn't do it in socks or bare feet or school shoes? If so I think they handled it quite well, I bet watching would have been boring.

Lol Aimsmum! I felt awful when she told me so maybe I am projecting my guild onto the school. She enjoyed it and wan't the only child doing it. It was also outdoor PE so maybe bare feet wasn't an option

at 5 that is ridiculous... no 5 year old should be picking up other peoples rubbish.. I'd go mad at the school but not mention it to dd.

She was out of doors, getting exercise, doing something Green, and having a good time - sounds Ok to me - it would only be sweet and crisp wrappers after all, not used needles or fag packets

I always had to borrow them from lost property! A bit harsh imo, but she doesn't seem too bothered, so thats main thing.

It sounds to me though that rather than exclude the children from PE and have them inside doing work, the school have told them they will be doing something exciting instead - so the children don't feel left out at all. I actually think the school have handled things really well. By the way - at ds's school they use these gripper things to pick up rubbish, which they think is really cool!

Better than having them hanging round watching and getting bored or sitting inside while the others are out.
Dont see why 5 year olds shouldn't help with keeping their school tidy After all it is THEIR school too adn it instills a sense of pride in their school into them which is no bad thing.

This is all new to me, 'red cards', 'golden time', for me it was 'in trouble' or 'not in trouble'.
