DD has a pair of these Hi Tec boots, which to be honest we chose because we saw them unworn, in her size at a car boot sale for a tenner. She likes wearing them - they're not that heavy and seem to be waterproof - and being leather they're pretty hard wearing. She will have outgrown them long before they wear out.

thank you these look great

Go to Sports direct, we buy DD's from here every time and tend to pay less than 20.

They do Karrimoor usually and some other brands which are fine for the amount of wear she gets out of them before her feet grow.

thanks are these waterproof Mrs Pnut?

Yes, the last pair we bought DD were these

MummiUni · 26/08/2014 14:21

Wyndsors also do them usually for about £20

Not brands specifically, but look on ebay before buying - an amazing amount of people seem to buy kids walking boots for one holiday and then sell them on hardly used at all. I've always bought dd's boots that way, and they've always appeared brand new.

thanks these look great - just wondering are they def waterproof as there are breathing/holes in them? I know they are walkign through streams etc,, so am guessing hard leather would be better

My kids have these waterproof boots from Mountain Warehouse. And they do a 20% discount for Scouts, so worth a look if they are for Cubs.

DD1 is a Scout and is on her second pair. They have proved waterproof and comfortable on a number of muddy night hikes and a weekend of "frost camp" in January which was possibly the wettest on record ...

Most of the "outdoor" stores sell childrens' waterproof boots at v reasonable prices. www.millets.co.uk/footwear/113641-hi-tec-girls-ridge-waterproof-jr-walking-boots-dark-grey.html

Hello,

I do a lot of walking, and in the past have read a lot of similar posts on walking forums.

It's worth bearing in mind that in a way the best pair for your child is the one that fits your child best. Different brands suit different foot shapes. I still remember pestering my mum for a pair of boots like the ones my friends' parents had bought when I was at primary school, but I then spent the next week trying to walk around the Lake District with my toes curled up because they didn't fit me properly. Oops...

It's worth going to a shop where the assistants have some experience of fitting boots to children, to make sure you get something comfy.

thanks everyone some great advice here - How do you get the Cubs discount for Mountian Warehouse?

OP posts:
hulahoopsilove · 27/08/2014 10:29

I think the group have to register

teacherwith2kids · 27/08/2014 11:04

Hula, in my experience you walk into the local branch carrying a necker and they do it automatically....

AChickenCalledKorma · 27/08/2014 16:45

... in my experience if you go into a shop and say "she's a Scout but I've forgotten her necker" they will still give the discount! But probably best to take it with you just in case.

Don't know about online - I haven't tried. The online prices are not always the same as in store, though, so it might not be the same.
