my DS 4.3 likes playing on the cbeebies app, some of the games are more educational than others.

For a two year old - forget the tablet and read to a child, play games and do arts and craft. Nothing prepares a child as much as interaction, learning to play with others, listen to stories and songs and train gross and fine motor skills.

For a pre-schooler - there are good apps but again, I still prefer the old fashion way. DD was 5 and just finished Reception when we started with apps to continue during the holidays.

I think a child learns better when it works with a parent and interacts with a board game than playing alone on a tablet.

I don't banish them and they are great ones for practising maths and spelling but in general I like to use them as less as possible.
