When is the first day back for your DC's this year? Ours is the 2nd which seems earlier than usual.

Not that I'm complaining!

1st of September but it is an Inset day so officially it is the 2nd. I find it quite early as well but as I work and DD enjoys only so much holiday club days I am glad.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 17/08/2014 23:10

3rd here - 2nd is INSET

nonicknameseemsavailable · 17/08/2014 23:13

our holiday officially was 2 days short of 6 weeks but an inset day at either end made it a bit better. I think it gets shorter by the year sadly.

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/08/2014 23:23

4th here, two inset days on 2nd and 3rd. Holidays here were exactly 6 weeks (well, minus 2 days if you are counting inset days).

Mouldypineapple · 17/08/2014 23:28

3rd. First day ever!! My baby is growing up.

Fuckalella · 17/08/2014 23:40

28th Aug here, our county also breaks up a week earlier than most though.

Term in England officially starts on the first working day after the 31st of August so this year that is Monday 1st of Sept, next year will be tuesday 1st and so on. Last year it was was monday 2nd.

Schools then run for 195 days with 5 of them being inset days where the schools choose, though there are some days that are advised to be insets (eg 20th July 15)

This year is the earliest feeling possible, you get the years where Sept 1 st is. Thurs so makes sense to have 2 insets meaning the kids start back on Mon 5th.

Hope that clarifies the issue

clary · 18/08/2014 00:44

The school I work at starts back on Sept 8th and that is an inset, so kids are not back until Sept 9.

My own DC go back to school on Sept 4th tho Grin

BramwellBrown · 18/08/2014 00:48

I've got hundreds of siblings and 2 DC, at 6 different schools, to get sorted for the start of term so I've got 2 back on the 2nd, 2 on the 3rd, 2 on the 4th and 1 on the 5th, sadly i have forgotten which ones are which day again, I'm going to have to stick a big list up.

cathpip · 18/08/2014 01:11

Don't do what my friend did and send one back a day early, and that was for the first day at secondary :), daughter mortified, my friend had to go and collect her from reception!!!

BramwellBrown · 18/08/2014 03:28

Grin I can actually see me doing that, they're yrs 1, 6 (x2), 7, 10, 12 and college, so i figure as long as I get the youngest ones right it'll be ok as the older ones will tell me if i try to send them in early and they get school buses so can just walk home when there's no one at the bus stop/the bus doesn't turn up, so at least no one will know

RiversideMum · 18/08/2014 09:08

Just to say that inset days are not extra days off school! There are 190 pupil days and this has been the same for many years. When the national curriculum was launched, Kenneth Baker took 5 days off staff non contact time for training etc.

MirandaWest · 18/08/2014 09:10

It's the 3rd September here.

Next year they're breaking up on the 17th July and not going back until the 9th September Shock

6031769 · 18/08/2014 19:02

28th august here but they broke up 11 July

louisejxxx · 18/08/2014 19:06

It's my d's first ever (half) day on the 2nd of Selt, the 1st is an inset day.

louisejxxx · 18/08/2014 19:06

Should say ds's, stupid autocorrect.

DebbieFiderer · 18/08/2014 20:11

Term here officially starts on the 2nd, but two inset days mean DD actually goes back on the Thursday.

blueberryboybait · 18/08/2014 20:13

28th August - 2 days before she turns 4 :(

ilovepowerhoop · 18/08/2014 20:17

Mine went back today..yippee! (Scotland)

insancerre · 18/08/2014 20:19

The 8th September

PavlovtheCat · 18/08/2014 20:20

4th? whatever the first thursday is.

I am quite sad, having just come back from a wonderful week with my children, I don't want to go back to work and don't want them to go back to school. I want to live in a yurt and not wear shoes and learn about nature and do bike riding and den building and looking at the stars...

UniS · 19/08/2014 08:25

8th. County official term start dateis 3rd but round here inset days ( I think the secondary may be hosting something for the feeder schools staff) mean kids are back on the 8th.

We didn't break up till the end of July so its still a normal length holiday just a bit later than some.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/08/2014 15:01

My DD is 4th with 3rd an inset day. DS doesn't start until 15th as new starter and no full days until 29th Sept!

BackforGood · 19/08/2014 18:22

Term here starts on 1st.
My dds' school is taking 2 days as INSET so they are in on Wed 3rd Sept.

sleeplessinderbyshire · 19/08/2014 21:59

officially 5th Sept but the LEA have said that all schools should take that as an inset, DD's school are also having Monday 8th as a inset so she goes back on Tues 9th.

Makes for one happy mum here as we get a termtime priced holiday in our school holidays and we're now less than half way through the summer holidays
