Trafford Independent Schools

Hi there

My husband's job is being relocated to Salford, and we are looking to move to Sale/Timperley/ Altrincham depending on the right house within our budget and schools. My kids are already at primary school, so I imagine them getting a place in a state school of our choice may be somewhat tricky, although we are still going to consider/visit any school they may give us.

As a backup I'd also like to start looking at private prep schools within this area. I have two girls so am looking at Bowden Prep, Forest School and Forest Prep and Hale Prep. As it's the summer, they are all closed and before my husband accepts, we'd like to know that my kids wont have too much trouble getting a place. Does anyone knows if all/any of these schools are very overly-subscribed for all years? I know only the school is able to give a definite answer, but if I could roughly gauge it would be a big help.

Thanks in advance.

Trafford schools in general are very over subscribed but it's worse in Altringham / Bowdon than elsewhere. The LA will tell you where there are state places. Surely there will be done one answering emails at these school etc ?

A lot of the prep schools have staff in over the summer. Usually the school receptionist and the headteacher are in for significant parts of the summer hols so you can ring up and book an appointment to see the head and he will show you around. Obviously you won't get the feel of what the school is like on a school day but there will most likely be children on the premises as lots of the prep schools have on site holiday clubs.

Hi I live in altrincham and I believe that for reception places there is a big waiting list at hale and bowdon not sure about forest. I think it very much depends on what year your children are in. A lot of people move there kids at the start of juniors to a prep from state in anticipation of the grammar entrance exams so would imagine juniors would be a lot busier.
I would get on to the schools ASAP I would imagine that it's not going to be that easy trafford especially altrincham, hale and bowdon are massively oversubscribed as I'm sure you already know.
