Story writing

I've seen previously on this board a recommended programme for improving story writing. Deals with structure, descriptions, speech etc. Can anyone suggest what it might have been? Suitable for year 3/4 to do at home

I don't know what the recommended programme was, but this book is fab for encouraging storywriting. www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?productId=271355&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100

Our school use the Pie Corbett Talk for Writing method, starts with retelling a story, then retelling and changing details, until they can tell an independent story. Might be worth a google as I don't know if it can be done at home as well as at school.

I don't know any specific methods, but as a TA, when working with very reluctant, less able Yr2 boys, I would get them to DICTATE their story to me, and (as I am a touch typist) I would type it up on the computer. This would encourage their ideas to flow, once they were relieved of the chore to handwriting.

If you have a tape recorder, or phone that will serve for recording, it might be worth a child dictating their ideas, perhaps reviewing and improving it, before writing or typing it.

Unfortunately Story Ideas only seems available in the states - or at least that's what my iTunes just gave as a reason for not opening your link mrz.
