Year 5 end of year levels

Well, the year 4s have one.
(Although not in the spirit of mumsnet, I'm not posting dd's as bit pointless as her school in special measures and her levels have been all over the place for years due to numerous reasons related to special measures. I have no way of knowing how accurate they are.)

So really, you want us to tell you are DC levels, so you can compare your DD's results?

The expected level for end of Year 5 is 3a it said on DS's report. I'm missing the point of this aren't I.

No, just thought year 4 s have a busy thread discussing year 4 levels so thought would do one for year 5s. As I said no point me comparing as dd's are meaningless anyway.

So,...what's the point then? You think you can't compare your DCs levels with those of others anyway,...although I don't think that a school being in SM needs to mean their assessment is poor.
My Y5 class' levels in writing range from 2a-5c, in reading from 3b-5b and in Maths from 3c-5b. Any help? The expected level at their age is 3a/4c. Some are below, some are above.

So you essentially want other people to cough up information but you're not prepared to do the same!

Isn't that a bit like asking everyone to tell you how much they earn, but saying you're not going to tell them what you earn?!

DS is low to medium level 5s in reading, writing and maths.

I think it depends on a number of things, I wouldn't read too much into what levels they say she is at tbh. They should tell you what the average is for her year group so you could judge by that. Apparently most the kids in my dd's school are working above the average expected but I think it depends how they are tested. My dd2 scored above average for everything except science and PE but is being kept down last year ( classes are mixed year groups ) which probably means the rest of her year are working at a higher level?

Dd1 has just finished year 5 and is working at 4a and 4b for most subjects.

I wonder if there will be a tendency for people to post when levels are average or above, but perhaps not when below average....

Son's end of year level (no sub-levels given) 5 for all of Maths, Reading and Writing.

Ds made no progress in English this yr, according to NC levels. I'm not the least bit bothered. (How very um-mumsnetty of me, no?)

ps: can't remember what his maths did, must have been some kind of 'improvement'.

It's probably all a bit irrelevant really because from September these levels will be scrapped and schools will have to determine their own assessment levels so it will be virtually impossible to compare as there will be no national level anymore.

current yr5s will be given NC levels in yr6 SATs, so not completely irrelevant yet. Besides, there will be look up tables between the current & future system, I expect.

dd1's Y5 class range from 2s to 5s, with most on 3s and 4s. There is a bunch of them on high 4s and low 5s, at the top.

But not only are levels being scrapped, the Y5 ones are not meaningful taken in isolation anyway. In past few years kids have invariably made big leaps in Y6, ending up with higher scores - Y5 seems to be a bit of a consolidation year, like Y3, with leaps (on average) happening more in Y4 and Y6.

Sorry, that applies to dds' school - no idea about others, as not had level conversations with parents from other schools!

Ah they're all bollocks. I have twins. DT2 is in a higher maths group than DT1. On the day of the tests DT2 had a headache (didn't tell me until the end of the day that he'd been suffering, despite apparently having since he woke up!) and obviously didn't perform his best, so got a lower level than DT1. Yet at homework he whizzes through while DT1 often asks for help.

DT2 got 3a, DT1 got 4c. (both got 3a for writing, DT1 got 4b for reading, DT2 got 4c)

Dd got 5b for maths, science and reading, and 6c for English. Other subjects not so good; these are her strengths.
