Concerned about PSED 'emerging' in YR report

DD's YR report came yesterday. She's 5.5.

I wasn't particularly worried about the report and we are pretty chilled out about school. DD enjoys school, is doing well and we are not pushy parents. My one niggle is the social side. She is a very sensitive little girl, friendly and well liked, but really struggles with large groups and confidence in general.

We haven't been surprised at all by the overall report or by the teacher picking up on this, but seeing it in black and white has upset me a bit Sad.

I think I'm only looking for reassurance. Are there any parents of older, similar children out there who can share their experience? If your DC was only 'behind' (for want of a better word) in PSED, did it get better in subsequent years, and at what age?

I wouldn't worry but you can ask your teacher if she used any of the guidelines in 'Development Matters' - this contains descriptive characteristics by monthly age bands. Find out which characteristics are concerning.

Don't worry too much. My oldest was selectively mute at your daughters age and now at age 13 hey can't get her to shut-up. She's a great kids and school thinks she is doing awesome with her peer group.

Thanks for the reply, proudmama. Good to see your DD has made progress.

Off to google 'Development matters'. All this is new to me!
