Hi,
My ex booked a holiday to take my 9 year old son to Turkey months ago - where he lives the schools broke up for the holidays last week. I thought my son's school did as well, but it doesn't finish until this friday (yes I know I'm daft)
He needs to take the lad from school on Wednesday, which means 1 and a half days off school. Ex says to pretend my son is ill... I would rather be honest and explain the situation to the headmaster. Ex (who is a teacher btw) says it would be easier to tell a little fib.
What do you think?

Ex booked it, ex can phone up and fib!

ilovepowerhoop · 12/07/2014 19:06

let him sort it out, its him that booked the trip

Ex can do the phoning and if he wants to fib, then let him be the one to do it. If he's caught out, he can pay the fine.

Bit of a shit situation, but most local authorities put the school holidays up online at least a year in advance. Both of mine (children in schools in 2 neighbouring LAs) have theirs up for 2015-16 already. He should have checked before booking.

I never actually thought of that. I don't think he will though, all that stuff falls to me.

Please let them know he won't be in. There's all sorts of stuff sent home in the last few days - if a child misses that without warning it's frustrating.

It is unlikely you'll be fined for a day and a half to be honest. Most LAs only fine after 5 days. However, be aware the fines are per parent, so if he's fined, so will you be.

OK I think I will just ring up on Monday and explain the situation. He hardly ever has a day off or a holiday, so hopefully they will understand, I don't like to lie to them. If they fine me, then they fine me, but I won't let him miss his holiday, thanks for the input everyone. :)
