My ds is an August birthday. He is just finishing year 4 with a 4c in literacy, 4b+ in maths and a 5c in reading. He is in the top group in his class but not the best. I would like him to take the 11+ and he goes to a tutor once a week, although this is not specifically for prep but more to fill in any gaps. I am very firmly of the belief that if he doesn't get in then it is not right for him anyway and I don't want to push him now to find that he will struggle if he does get in.
The area where he struggles at the moment is problem solving. His brain hasn't quite mastered how to break up a problem to put the calculations together. If you help him with this part he can work out the rest with no problem. I was just wondering if this was a maturity thing and whether it will come with time or whether we need to look at it a little more?
Do you think there is a difference in learning maturity at this age or is it just down to the individual?
