Berkhamsted primary schools

Hi,
I'm hoping to get some info/advice/ reassurance (!!!) from any Berkhamsted parents with kids at primary school.
We've just moved to the area from London mainly because of issues with schools there.
I know Herts is/ has reorganised it's school system to two tiers.

Our DS is due to start next Sept (2015).

Our nearest school is Greenway ( which I was told when I rang today there is no chance of getting a place for DS for Sept 2015 as it has reduced to one form entry and will be full entirely of siblings of current pupils)....
Westfield is second nearest but has also reduced to one form entry so I suspect the same maybe true there ( we live about 0.8 miles away).
Bridgewater is just under a mile and swing gate over a mile away.

Does anyone have experience of Bridgewater school since it became a primary?
Any advice/ info gratefully received as I'm slightly panicking we have moved here yet spaces for schools seems as hard as London and I really want him to go to a local school!

Thank you!

Hi there.

Westfield hasn't reduced to one class entry, it always has been. We have a one bulge year where there are two classes.

I think you potentially would get in to Westfield as the catchment area has got bigger as there seems to be less siblings. Greenway is common knowledge that there are huge amounts of siblings as their current year 1 is a three form intake hence so many siblings.

Bridgewater is a very good primary, as it was an outstanding middle school. I know many children that are in the reception there and very happy.

To be honest, any school you get in Berkhamsted would be fine. They are all brilliant schools.

Feel free to message me if you need any more info.

Dear Freckles 73,
Thank you so much for the info- very reassuring and I'm sure you are right the schools here are all pretty good!
Thanks again x

Ps do you know if Victoria school ( which will increase to a two form entry) is still mainly based on attendance at Church or has this relaxed?
No probs if you don't know just thought I would pick your brains!

Thanks again.

Hey - my daughter goes to Bridgewater nursery and it is fantastic. However we found it hard to get a place anywhere for reception this year. We live next to Greenway too :( so no space there or at Westfield or at Bridgewater which is now massively oversubscribed. We got into Victoria because I'm close and my children were christened in St. Peter's but we have chosen swing gate which appears to be a great school and still has places. I wish I'd looked at it earlier to be honest! Hope this helps!

Thanks it does. It sounds a stressful business butglad you got something sorted. We're you late to apply or was everywhere just oversubscribed?
Too many people moving out of London with kids!!!
Do children have to be christened/ regular church attendees to get accepted into Victoria?
Thanks!
X
