Creative independent schools

We are an american family moving to london later this summer. My husband is changing jobs and it is all happening v. quick. We have lived in london before, so it isn't unfamiliar, but now with 3 school aged kids instead of 1 infant. (ages 9, 7, 4)
Schools are my big worry. Because of timing, need for address, etc it sadly doesn't look like state schools are an option for us. So private/independent schools. It seems UK schools are much more academically rigorous than our current american school, not too mention that they are a year ahead. I'm particularly worried about our oldest who is bright, but not great at math facts or memorization. And our middle, who we started later because he was a summer birthday (most hold back boys in states)- so he is effectively 2 years behind.
Looking for advice of good schools that aren't so exam-focused. We are open about where we are looking to live but probably south/west ... Fulham, Putney, Chiswick, Balham, Clapham areas. And any thoughts on where to place your kids grade-wise would be oh-so helpful as well.

Would you consider the American School (St Johns Wood)? Not sure if the distance is doable but it might suit you.

King Alfred's in Hampstead would probably suit you but wrong part of London

I agree with King Alfred's or Dallington or Rosemary Works in N1.

I do know that Dallington teach kids to read a year later than in the state sector. However, it is in the City so may not suit you.

Newton in Battersea? Bit of a hoof but should fit the bill.
