'School Start' programme - what's it all about?

At pick up yesterday a reception teacher ushered over OH (who was at pick up with me) and gave him a form with our DD's name on and a list of 'provision/resource' on it and various titles such as; Speech & language support, Individual reward system, In class support, Social support group, Beam group, Nurture group and School start (which was highlighted for DD).

Does anyone know what the heck I should be doing about this?

OH unperturbed put this in the hood of DS's buggy and went off to chat. I went over to this teacher to ask for clarification and the teacher said in September DD would be receiving 1x20mins weekly extra phonics help. I said 'oh, if she needs help with phonics, can we have some resources to work on between now and then at home?' Teacher said 'No'.

Seems that both DD & myself are missing something!

school start?

Does she find phonics tricky? It's a shame school aren't supportive but there's loads of stuff on the internet you could do over the summer. Depending on her stage she might enjoy something like alphablocks games, teach your monsters to read, reading eggs (you can usually get a free trial for 3-4 weeks).

We've logged back on to Reading Eggs today!

I've got in touch with a local tutor who specialises in key stage 1 and is SENCO qualified. I know that this can be pushy parent terrain but I'm up for early intervention before the gap widens and she starts to compared her progress to her classmates.

Fingers crossed everything will start coming together for her in year 1.

Thanks WaxyDaisy and catkind
