In year primary admissions

Hi,

Does anybody know whether there is a timescale for councils to process your application for an in year primary admission please?

My son is 7 and has been without a school for the last 6 weeks, after we moved to a new area. I spoke with the council last week and they said the person who would process the application is on holiday and they couldn;t give me any more info!

Just tried to call again and there is an answerphone message to say they are closed!

All very frustrating and wondered if there was some statutory guidelines they are supposed to work from

TIA

There is no statutory limit. The old Admissions Code said that applications must be processed "without delay". The new Code does not contain this statement.

Having said that, 6 weeks is far too long for your son to be missing school. I would tell the LA that if they don't come up with a place by the end of the week you will refer the matter to the Local Government Ombudsman.
