Does anyone have a copy of the admissions policy? It was on their website last year but seems to have vanished.

I'm in a dilemma. We live close to St J's and I'm a practising Catholic, but don't go to St J's church - I go to another very local parish church and that parish doesn't feed into St J's for school admissions. It would be nuts for DS to go anywhere other than St J's in terms of both proximity and ethos.

DS is a few years off school entry but I'm wondering if I'll have to step away from my various current parish responsibilities and go to St J's every Sunday instead, in order to get the "right" priest's reference.

I need to check the wording of the admissions policy to see how we'd fare under the current policy and then keep an eye on it as he grows, I think.

Call the school

SisterChristina · 23/06/2014 22:43

There are 4 parishes that 'feed' into st James and you don't realistically have any chance of a place if you are outside of those 4 (each has a quota of places).

The parishes refer to where you live rather than where you worship so if you do live within one of the relevant parish boundaries it doesn't matter where you actually worship.

I thought only 2 of the 4 parishes had quotas

SisterChristina · 23/06/2014 23:43

Think they each have to have a quota/ allocation otherwise the school would be full of children from the St. James's parish, which is obviously closest to the school.

It is a bit of an anomaly that a third of the intake is from Hampton, quite a way from the school geographically but seen as fair as Hampton has no catholic school of its own

Do you know the school well, Sister Christina? Do you know whether many children leave in year 2 and 3? Or are things fairly static?

SisterChristina · 24/06/2014 19:13

I certainly do! 2 children there at the moment and one starting in Sep.

Very, very few children leave in years 2 and 3. In fact I don't know of any. Things are very static. Especially since the feeder system to certain secondary schools was abolished.

Admissions policy is on the website here: www.st-james.richmond.sch.uk/Welcome/Admissions.aspx

Thanks all - Christina, that's very helpful as I worship in Teddington but couldn't be much closer geographically to St J's.
