School satchel

Sorry, I'm not really sure if this is the right place, but maybe someone can help. DD really wants a backpack style satchel for September. Anyone know where I can get a nice one which is not too spendy?
Thanks!

Try amazon.fr, search for "cartable", they have loads. Or if you go to France over the summer, there'll be tons in any of the big supermarkets once rentrée hits in early August.

I forgot about the ',' instead of '.' for prices.

So was a bit concerned about the satchel costing €82,50. And wondered how it had so many reviews given how expensive it was. Then I remembered Grin

Great will have a look at French amazon! Thanks.

Sorry to resurrect this again, but I've looked in French Amazon a few times and can't quite find anything that I really like the look of, though they are the right type of thing - a landscape shaped back pack with a flap opening across the top.

Any other suggestions of where I could look? DD is dead-set on this kind of thing as a school bag.

something like this?

LittleMissGreen · 11/08/2014 15:30

or this?

mabelbabel · 11/08/2014 20:16

Thank you, but not quite. I suppose I mean something more like a messenger bag, but with back pack straps, if that makes any sense?

this sort of thing?

ilovepowerhoop · 11/08/2014 21:04

this?

ilovepowerhoop · 11/08/2014 21:06

might be a bit small

How old is she? Is a fabric one like the french Tann's bags or a leather satchel?

Not v waterproof but cheap! I got my favourite ever schoolbag from this place when I was at college (recommended by my mum who had one in the 60s !) It was pretty cool (unlike me!)

musiceverywhere · 12/08/2014 23:50

And maybe try reposting in 'style' topic?

mabelbabel · 13/08/2014 16:59

Thanks for the replies. She's only 8, so the leather style ones are a bit grown up I think. The French Tann's bag is really exactly the kind of thing. Now if only I could find one the right size and colour, actually in stock, and not hideously expensive!!

The older style children's Cath Kitson bags are satchel backs that convert to backpacks.

PennyPepper · 13/08/2014 17:07

Tann's aren't cheap but they are fabulous. My son has had his for school for 5 years and it's still going strong and looking good.

mabelbabel · 13/08/2014 17:09

Actually I'm sure this isn't what you meant, but having looked at the Cath Kidston site, she might actually like this:

PennyPepper just looking at the Tann's again, they do look really sturdy - I'm just thinking they may be more suitable for secondary, as she's not really going to have that much to carry for the time being I don't think. The smallest size seems to be 35cm? Will definitely bear them in mind for the future though.

Tann's really aren't cool for secondary, they are very definitely primary school bags.

My son's is the 35cm one and is perfect for A4 size books. It is about the same size as primary book bags but deeper (due to gussets) so can hold pencil case, snack box etc too. Comfy to carry, not heavy even for little ones. He has had his since he was 3 and he has never asked for a different one, despite many of his friends having a new bag every year.

Can you tell I love it?Grin

mabelbabel · 13/08/2014 22:43

Ooh you are selling it to me now... Will reconsider my position!
