Theres one bout 10mins walking distance away, then theres one bout 20mins walking distance away. I want her to go to the one which is further away. Im not sure how it all works--do they just atomatically put her name down for the close one or is it up to me? Sorry if im confusing you! Thanks

You'd have to apply probably via the Local education Authority for your area perhaps naming your preferences in order. You should automatically get a pack about a year or so ahead of the start date and be invited to visit schools in your area before submitting the paperwork, so for entry next September 2007/January 2008 the application process could begin around now.

Details of the timings of the application procedures and any specific entrance criteria for each school should be on their website. Some areas operate strict catchments, prioritising those living within them before looking at those from outside , others don't but may look at walking distance if oversubscritbed. Most will give priority to applications from siblings of those already at the school, SEN, and even practicing religion if a Faith school.
