Going for appeal

Should/would you appeal for a place if the reason your child hasn't got a place is because the year group is full?

Can you expand a bit in your circumstances?

All appeals, by definition, occur when a school has reached PAN, but parents think their DC should be admitted, either because an error has been made (the only permitted grounds for ICS, ie yrsR,1 &2) or because the detriment to the DC in not being admitted outweighs the rejoice to the school and i's pupils in going over numbers.

School admission policy has been followed but will be moving into the area just before September. There are other schools close(ish) but this one is within walking distance so will be easier.

Can you explain what you mean by ICS and 'the rejoice to the school'??

Thx

ICS = infant class size, set by law as a maximum of 30 for children in the infant years (Reception, Y1 and Y2)

"rejoice" I think must have been autocorrected. Assume meditrina meant "prejudice to the school".

So I think the answer would be that you would not be expecting to win in your case. Doesn't mean that you won't, but perhaps you will have more luck with the waiting list.

If the year group was not full there would be no need to appeal. They cannot hold places back. If a child applies and there is a vacancy it must be offered.

As others have said, your chances at appeal depend on whether or not it would be an infant class size case. If it is an ICS case you would need to show that a mistake has been made that has deprived your child of a place, which is very unlikely for a late application. If it is not ICS you would have a better chance.

Yes, I did mean 'prejudice' (I think it's what th autocorrect does if you manage to miss the 'p'). Sorry for any confusion.
