South West boarding prep/ feeder to Winchester College

Can anyone recommend a boarding prep school that feeds Winchester College?

DS is not sporty (and hates being the 'unsporty' one), very bright and sensitive.

Please no schools with a 'jock' culture.

Thank you.

Hi, are you looking for a full boarding, weekly boarding or flex-boarding school? All boys or co-ed?

Unfortunately, I don't know of many boarding preps in the south west, if you're willing to go further out you might find a wider selection. I also don't know of any that feed to Winchester College in that area.

Here are the few preps I know of:

Mount House School: Co-ed. Website here. For boys, seems proud to feed to Eton, but also mentions some boys go to other schools including Winchester (see here). Doesn't seem to "macho" or "jock culture" to me, but I have no experience with the school.

Tockington Manor: Co-ed. Website here. Feeds to a range of schools. It doesn't mention Winchester, but does talk about Eton and Harrow, so maybe not too much of a stretch?

Sherbourne Prep: Co-ed. Website here. Doesn't really mention what schools children go onto, or at least I couldn't find it. Good school though, from what I can see.

Finally, Wycliffe. Not a prep, but has a prep division. I don't know if you would consider it because it has an attached senior school but the website is here for you to look at.

If you want a single sex, (almost) full boarding Winchester College feeder prep I think you'll have to look to the schools outside of the south west such as Ludgrove, Sunningdale, Horris Hill etc.

Whoops! Ignore my grammatical errors.

I hear that Walhampton in Hampshire sends boys to Winchester every year, and this year they sent two scholars there. I believe it is a sporty school, but not overly so, there are plenty of other things on offer and I have heard that children go off golfing or cooking if they are not in match etc. A friend has her DCs there and they really love it.

Thank you so much for your advice, really appreciated and very kind of you to take the time.

I will be visiting some of the schools!

I will have my radar out to spot any potential jock culture!

Kind regards

Dolores

I would be interested to hear about your impressions on any of these schools, sorry that I couldn't give more detailed advice. If you're still looking, I think this is another prep in that general area that does quite well in Year 8 (click here)

If you really mean south west, then have a look at mount house, not huge numbers to Winchester but scholarships in two of the last three years.St Peters really isnt geared up for schools such as Winchester.

Yes, I would agree with propatria I am just trying to give some more options in case you don't like the schools when you visit.
