Has anyone tried Carol Vorderman's 10 minute maths books- the ones with the timer? I am thinking of using one with my 5 year old. Would the 3-5 years or 5-7 years be best. I think he is slightly above average but don't want to put him off as his confidence is easily knocked.

Ds3 is 7. I bought the 6/7 and the 7/8. The 6/7 is quite easy for him but he really enjoyed doing it and I felt it was quite good to go back over the work he has done.

Preferred the Collins ones, which keep several topics ticking over, rather than covering one the moving on to the next - DS1 tended to forget all about it!

Collins mental maths.

DD begged me to buy her one of these from the bookshop, so I did, somewhat sceptical that it would like her interest. It did - she really liked the layout and that you could dip in and out of them.

I would start with the easier one and see how he gets on. Some of the things in the 5-7 one are in the Y2 curriculum, so he may not have come across some of the concepts and methods yet.
