...online!! HOw cool is that?! It took about 2 minutes, sent, confirmed, done!

It gave me the option to put down 5 schools and I just put one. Feel a bit odd about that but it's our catchment school and ds1 is already there so shouldn't be an issue.

so should I be doing this for ds3 too?

my brain is mush today and I can't work out when he's due to start...I thought it was 2008 but I'm confuzzzzing myself

he's 3 at the end of this month....

Piffle · 01/09/2006 13:25

shit no way is this really truly happening
Where is my letter thus?

clairemow · 01/09/2006 13:27

Do you really have to do it this early? I thought you had to apply the September before they start? DS is 3 next May, so will start Sept 2008, same as your DS3, LTH. I've only just sorted out pre-school...!!

Gobbledigook · 01/09/2006 13:27

Oops, sorry for confusion - I meant 2007!! Hehehe - sorry girls!

OMG panicked slightly then as ds is in reception in 2008...still not heard if he has a place in the school nursery never mind applying for the reception..lol

Lua · 01/09/2006 13:33

gdg -
How did you do it? can you point me in the right direction?
I am completely panicking as although there are 3 good schools within less of a mile from my house - they all seem unsure I can get a place!

Gobbledigook · 01/09/2006 13:36

YOu need to go to your own LEA website - I don't know if all LEAs allow you to do it online - I think this is the first year we could do it and I thought it was fab as it was so quick and there's no worry about it getting lost in the post!

gdg - I am in manchester too... which is why I thought you could point me in the right direction?

This is my first time through (didn't go to school in this country either...)- so I am completely ignorant about the first thing!

Thanks!!

clairemow · 01/09/2006 13:38

phew! can go back to not thinking about it for another year!!

Gobbledigook · 01/09/2006 13:39

I'm trafford LEA lua - are you?

OP posts:
Lua · 01/09/2006 13:49

I am in the border of manchester LEA and trafford... I think I am going to do two separate applications??

LadyTophamHatt · 01/09/2006 13:55

I'm still recovering from the ordeal that was applying for a nursery place - getting refused, having to wait for a vacancy, going to appeal...... and now I've got to do it for a Reception place. jaysus

Stockport LEA aren't that organised I bet! they are crap. nuff said

LucyCat · 01/09/2006 14:18

They are too busy organising their school holidays to be completely different to every other LEA in a 40 mile radius.

ggrrr. crap.

Gobbledigook · 01/09/2006 14:23

Really LucyCat - how annoying!

Lua - hmmm, am wondering where you are now as I am very close to Manchester border too!

Definitely apply in both if you are on the border. Is a Trafford school closer to you than a Manchester one?

OP posts:
LucyCat · 01/09/2006 14:26

It is when dh works for Cheshire LEA and I wanted to take a job in Manchester LEA - no go this year!

more ggrrrrrr-ing

Lua · 01/09/2006 21:12

GDG - If I remember correctly you are a bit south of me. maybe by two miles or so.

I did took a look at the Trafford site. Wasn't sure if I was allowed to apply there since I am officially in Manchester. The school on the Trafford side is a bit further away, but is better and perhaps closer than the big school west of me where I will probable end up if I don't get in one of the 3 (!!! !) schools close to me.

LucyCat - If you get a job at the Manchester LEA can you give me some tips? I am utterly confused about the whole process...

LucyCat · 01/09/2006 22:49

It was as a teacher, but the whole holiday thing p*ed me off so much I withdrew my application.

sorry that wasn't much help was it?

Gobbledigook · 01/09/2006 22:55

I'm pretty sure you can apply to a Trafford school even if you are in Manchester. There are children in ds's school who actually live in Manchester but just 'over the border' iyswim.

Thanks to both of you!
It shall be a fun year with a crash course in the school system!
