hello everyone, my daughter is having her assessments at school these days. she had level 2a in writing, this February. Today she told me that she has got level 4 in writing. Apparently she saw her paper. i was wondering can a child go from level 2a to level 4 in one term time. thanks

Highly unlikely to go from a 2A to a 4 in just one term, but it is not unheard of. When you say she is having her assessments what do you mean?

There are teacher assessments which award a level on the full breadth of the curriculum, and tests which can allocate a level based on a narrow snapshot of just part of the curriculum. I teach year 2 and some of my class picked up enough points on this years tests to be award a grade that none of my teacher assessments of their work day-in, day-out evidences them capable of. This can cause mis-matches if the levels recorded do not compare like by like.

Is she particularly able at certain types of writing? So her assessed piece might have been one of her strengths but she's not there overall?

Level 4 is very good in Year 3 in writing - only the very few most able at DC's school are there.

Mine have been doing these optional SAT type tests too, in yr 3 and yr 4, and DD achieved a similarly impressive leap, but that is just on this test. The overall score is teacher assessed more than anything at this stage, so I suspect the overall level will be up on February's (3A) but not at the level of the test (4A!) - there is no way DD is operating at the level given all the time, I've seen her work!

they are doing optional sat tests, one thing to add is that we(me and my husband) have been doing lots of bond books and other homework stuff with her during the last few months, and we have started tuition for her as well.
