Anyone else anxious about starting school (me and dd)

DD really doesn't want to go. I really don't want her to kick off every morning. Am getting near panic attacks if I think about it too long.

Just looking for some moral support...

zdl my dts started on Tuesday and despite nerves are really enjoying it. It was me who was more nervous actually but so far it has been relatively pain free!

From what I am hearing and what I have seen most children are doing fine but it seems that the more confident children were having a harder time than the cautious ones in settling.

I just can't imagine that dd will go peacefully, though. It gets so depressing to hear how other children are excited looking forward to it when DD is so un-enthused.

DD knows lots of other children, but she isn't a very social person so she doesn't really care!

My DD is entirely unconvinced about her new school and I am terrified about her first day. I really want to avoid the tears and clinging but I have come to the conclusion that what will be will be. She is only just four and I have been trying to make really light of the issue if mention it at all.

my son started this morning and it was heartbreaking i had to leave him sobbing on the desk.i felt gutted but the teacher said i had to go or it would get worse.i rang an hour later and they said he was ok but they would say that wouldnt they?roll on 12 oclock when i collect him i feel sick and unhappy.i know il have this every morning as i had it right thru preschool till i pulled him out.

ds was fine when i picked him up and chatted bout it most of afternoon but as soon as we left the house this morn he was in tears and ive had to leave him sobbing again.does it get any easier?????

I really feel for you mummy115. After all my anxieties (starting this thread) dd has loved it. Tires her out I think, but she loves it.
Some of the children who were fine yesterday were sobbing today, so I think it's a rollercoaster for many.

Really they will be fine. It may take a day, a week or until half term but they will be fine. Some children take time to make new friends, to learn school routine, to listen to teachers or get changed for PE before the PE hour has actually finished but it will happen. There is a lot of 'fear of the unknown' for children (and mummys) and much of it will be dispelled very quickly.

I've been through the crying child situation twice at pre-school and it is heart-breaking. Stay strong, stay positive and leave the room quickly if you're about to cry (I used to walk through the playground sobbing but I've still been voted in as this years Chairman!). And children really do stop crying after you've left - (I've surrepticiously checked!). It doesn't mean they don't enjoy the rest of their day.

Report back at Christmas and let us know how good it's been!

it was an improvement today he cried a silent cry but didnt cling just gave me a hug and went with the teacher and he was chatty when i collected him as hed been chosen as mr wolf in what time is it... game.maybe given time it will improve.im not sure i want him going full time tho in october!

My DD is due to start Monday. I know she'll be ok. We've had a few visits already where I've had to leave her. Its me who's having the problem. I've woken up today suffering from dreadful anxiety. I went to 2 meetings at the school this week to find out more about the curriculum, what DD will be bringing home to learn etc and I think I'm completely overwhelmed. Its gonna be such a change. I'm doign this on my own which probably doesn't help. Exp was supposed to come with me but cried off and didn't even phone yesterday to check if DD got on ok. That disappointed me. Sorry its a bit long. Have gone on the Kalms.

What we've had so far:
Days1-3: reluctant about me going, but said she didn't miss me when she came out.
Days4-7: cried and protested thru breakfast about going. Had to be pried off me screaming and crying, restrained by teacher, locked in. But said she didn't miss me when she came out... [sigh]
Days8: said she was "used to going" now, didn't even watch me leave.
Day 9: similar to Day8, said she was upset that she wasn't going to school the next day!

Today, said "hooray!" about not going to school today, and probably won't get out of her nightie all day.

I bet she'll be all over the place next few weeks, too. Who said being a parent was boring?

I am ressurecting this thread as I am having an unhappy time setling my daughter. I was hoping you will all come back and tell me how great it has been!

We are still at the crying when I leave and crying during the day stage - has been a week and a half. I am being positive but am having trouble holding up if it goes on too long.

How long before you didn't feel terrible dropping them off?

I am not sleeping with worry for my lovely dd!
