Hi there. My family and I are going to move to Whitby from Scotland after falling in love with it many years ago. We were thinking of the area that falls within the triangle of Love Lane, Stakesby Rd and Upgang lane, however we have seen there is a new Barratt development at Larpool lane. We would really appreciate honest advice about these areas, local primary schools, clubs, crime etc. Also is flooding an issue in the town centre? Look forward to hearing your replies.

I lived in Whitby for two years and there was never any flooding in that time.

If you live on West Cliff (Upgang lane etc) then clearly not gonna be an issue Grin. I had no DC when I lived there and had a town centre flat but tbh if I were living there with a family the areas you mention might be more my choice.

When I lived there Airy Hill primary was very much the most active and noted school but that is 18 years ago Shock so things may have changed.

Crime in Whitby was more or less non-existent (I was a journalist so I had reason to know) but of course that may be different now. I doubt it tho.

Clubs - hmmm it was and I bet still is under-resourced in terms of things to do - no cinema, not many shops, no train station that goes anywhere much, one secondary school, quiet and shut down in the winter. I guess it depends what you want but I got fed up of driving 30 miles to do the things I wanted to do. I also found it somewhat insular and unwelcoming. I am sure someone in Whitby with kids will come along and contradict me tho! It is lovely and picturesque I do agree. Good luck with the move OP.
