Tollcross Primary in Edinburgh?

Hello!

Can anyone share some information about Tollcross primary in Edinburgh? We are most likely moving to Scotland and really need to find a good primary school for our child this August.

The comments I have read so far (from the school's own webpage and by browsing) all sound good but I was hoping that someone would have some first hand experience.

Hi, we moved to Edinburgh last year and our 6 year old went to Tollcross Primary until there was space for her in our catchment school. I was impressed by the school although we were only there for about 2 months - its small and friendly, teaching appeared good. Play-ground was poor - no grass areas but that was probably the worst you can say about it! I would have been happy with my child attending there but our catchment school is closer. Depending on the age of your child I know that a lot of the younger years are now full so would suggest you contact them. We also used the after school club and it was fine, although there was no out door space for them to play in so they were inside all the time. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for our reply! Yes, that helps a lot. Our son will be 5 by the time he starts primary. The council said they still have places at Tollcross and since we don't know exactly where we will stay long term we might do the same things you did. Thanks for pointing out the thing about outdoor space, ok if it's short term but not ideal if it's the school you want them to stay at perhaps. However, I also got the impression that the actual school (teaching, staff etc) was very good . Thanks again!
