Holy Family Primary School Ealing

I was hoping to hear experiences on this new RC school in Ealing. We are not catholic, but quite keen on the school and since its outstanding Ofsted report (its first ever, as it's a new school) now feel worried DS might not get a place, as we're not catholic..

I see from the forms sent out by Ealing that they accepted the last applicant this year from other applicants 0.302 distance from the school - don't have any experience of the school though - sorry

toybucket · 29/04/2014 15:50

What are the admissions criteria?

Marabou · 29/04/2014 16:01

Jamdoughnut thank you for the info. Were do I access it? Looks like we're too far then Sad..

toybucket, sorry for some reason I can't access the admissions criteria on my computer at the moment, but it's available here:

Sorry if I'm being a bit clueless with my questions; I'm new to all this..

I only have the info as my daughter is going into reception in September and it was sent out with the forms by Ealing council. if you are a member of another Christian faith catholic schools usually look favourably on those applicaions above any other applicants

frillysockmum · 29/04/2014 16:21

Looks like if lots of catholic children appear you may miss out as they take priority for top categories - not unusual

Marabou · 29/04/2014 16:23

Jamdoughnut oh I see.. Actually, I had a look in the Ealing Primary School Prospectus 2014 and under "The distance & criterion of the last person to be offered a place for Sept 2013 as at the 17 April 2013 after the first round of offers." it says "4.327 miles (any Other Children)" so the distance has really shrunk then for 2014 Sad. We are Christian and therefore quite keen on having DS go to a Christian school, but have not been very active churchgoers of late (CofE) apart from a bible study group I attend. We must start going more often!

frillysockmum yes that's what I fear.. Our neighbour's little boy got offered a place there starting this September, but they are catholic. I'm not originally from the UK and all this competition with primary school places came as a shock to me so I'm sorry if I seem a bit ignorant..

It's a shock to most people !

Marabou · 29/04/2014 16:37

I guess so, although I must say many people I've spoken to lately in playgroups seem to be so knowledgeable and I've felt as though I've left it all too late (DS is 3 in a few weeks' time)..

jamdoughnut, I just re-read your post, would that distance simply mean that that was the furthest they had applications from, as I thought the school wasn't yet oversubscribed?

I've binned that part of my letter. But I'm sure that school had a large distance, much larger than the other Catholic schools around.

So the distance listed would have been for the last child to be accepted.

Jamdoughnutfiend · 30/04/2014 17:00

Sorry it doesn't say, but I thought virtually all of the schools in Ealing are oversubscribed. Perhaps worth looking on the council website, they have a list showing where there are open places for in year entry - I am sure last time I looked the holy family was full - you could just call the school and ask them too - better to call Catholic schools directly as they have their own submission processes - HTH!

Did you end up sending your DS in the school? Sorry i am a few years late but i am currently looking for schools in the area and would love to hear previous experiences..
