*still* no rejection letter or info about why not given preferences- is this normal??

I'm going crazy. We had an email on the 16th saying we hadn't got any of our 3 preferences, and were allocated A.N.Other school. Told to await letter with further instructions.

8 days later and still no letter. Multiple phonecalls to council in which I'm told I can't speak to anyone. Told they don't have information about distances and last place allocated anyway.

Our next door county has full admissions numbers on their website already, plus a distance calculator.

How on earth do I decide if an appeal is appropriate?? And all the while the deadline (which is when??) is looming.

Bah. Rant over. Any advice much appreciated.

Letters should have gone put on 16th. Mine arrived the next day and deadline to accept was only a couple of weeks. Our web site gives all the details of distances etc - I assume to try and reduce the number of phone queries. Everyone I know who did not get choice 1 knows where they are on all waiting lists. People are relatively calm as at least they know where they stand and can plan. I think the appeals form was with their letters. Definitely email - sounds like your letter has gone astray

Thanks both. I emailed on Thursday 17th May asking for distances, categories etc and nothing. No acknowledgement, no reply, nothing. Was told I had to email if I wanted to go on waiting lists, again nothing.

Hugely frustrating. I've even checked my original submission form and they definitely have the right address.

Grumpy - put in a Freedom of Information request. I work in local government so PM me if you want.

Thanks very much ProudAs. I finally got hold of a real live person and got some figures. We missed out by about 100 metres. Their distances appear right though (have checked on ordnance survey) so unfortunately we were just unlucky.

The original letter never did appear, now the second one allegedly posted. We did eventually get one emailed to us. It's just all so frustrating.
