Sorry, a long one......We live in a rural area and are in the catchment for a popular primary. We are 2.5 miles from the school. We are also 1.5 and 3 miles from 2 other great primary schools. We are 2 miles from a less great primary.
In my application I put our catchment school first, the 1.5 mile school second and 3 miler third.
Ds has not been offered a space at any of them but has been offered a place at the not so great school. In our catchment school 48 people applied. They have 28 spaces and offered 12 sibling cases and 16 catchment - furthest distance offered a place was 1.7 miles. The other 2 schools I selected were also over subscribed and offered no out of catchment places.
I am on the wait list for all 3 and have reluctantly accepted the offered school as a fall back. My first approach is to chat up the school and see if they can tell me where we are on the list. However, (finally where the request for advice comes in) if all looks hopeless would there be any merit on an appeal based on unreasonableness on the grounds that due to where we live we were always highly unlikely to get a space at our catchment school but are also unlikely to get a space at the other good schools (one which is closer) as they are out of catchment, meaning it was almost inevitable we'd only be offered a space in the less good undersubscribed school?
Any advice appreciated as very sad at present :-( thanks
