How much homework has your primary dc got and what year are they in?

Dd is yr 5 and has got 50 maths questions, 2 reading comprehensions and a book report to do

She's never had this much before, seems a little heavy

Y5 is a bugger for homework its prepping them for Y6 and SATS, I feel your pain!

DD is yr 5 and has nothing over Easter. I got the impression at the last parent's evening that her teacher doesn't really believe in homework ... if so I'd rather she didn't set any, instead of the rather haphazard approach we seem to get, but an Easter without homework is fine by me.

My year 4 son's homework is supposed to take no more than 20 minutes; they aim to set it only Mon-Thurs. Occasional extras but usually do-able in that timescale. I think his year 6 sister has usually been within 5x 30 mins / week last year and this. Both at preps. No holiday homework though the younger one's school encourages holiday diaries.

DD is in reception and has to write/draw a story (with headings to guide them.)

DS is year 5 and he has 20 maths questions, an RE worksheet about Easter and a comprehension

DS2 is in Year 2. He has to prepare a 2 minute presentation on the 2004 tsunami. This has to include some sort of presentation material. We are spending today doing a model tsunami out of papier-mâché and a poster. He also has 2 books to read.

Ds1 is year 4 and will do a bit of reading. Thank god he doesn't have to make any model volcanoes or whatever, I don't think I could stand it.

Do you mean over the Easter holidays?
Assuming so:

DD (Y3) - has nothing

DD (Y5) - has one of those painful and pointless open-ended projects to do (though he was given it 3 weeks before the holiday, but has to be in day they go back to school)

Dd in year six has got "10 for 10" which is ten numeracy questions for each of the ten weekdays she is off school. A SPAG and a reading past SATs paper. She is also expected to read seven times over the course of the holiday. It's the most homework she has ever had but understandable I suppose and at least it hasn't been constant SATs practice for her at school since January like it has been for my friend's ds.

Yr 6 DS has 6 mental maths tests to do ( I have to test him! ). Plus many spag worksheets, about 12 I think, plus reading "regularly". He argues that he reads regularly by reading once a year. I shall have to tell the teacher to add a frequency to her instructions.

My DDs school has a 'no homework in holidays' policy but during term time they regularly get around 20-30 mins each night - different subjects/topics (Year 5 and 6). Sometimes extended 'projects' and at other times stand-alone tasks.

Nothing (y1 & y5), quite a lot (y7).

Year 4.

40 mins per night alternating between maths and English.

Plus French 1 night a week.
Plus spellings once a week.

Plus the odd 1-off project.

God help us in year 5.

Y5 nothing over holidays. usually 1 piece of homework a week in term time either maths or english that takes no longer than 20-30 mins

During a normal school week DD (year 2) has the following homework: numeracy once per week, literacy and comprehension once per week, daily spelling task and reading. No homework is set over the holidays.

Year 5 nothing in holidays, but in term time 7 pieces of homework of 20 minutes each. Though last half of term they had a massive history project and then 5 pieces of other work per week.

DS1 Yr5 has 30 mins a day except for Wednesdays
DS2 Yr2 gets 15 minutes reading each day 5 minutes spellings each day and 20 mins set work done once a week.

Ours don't get homework in term time only holidays.

DD yr5 has to a presentation on someone famous from the Caribbean.

DS yr3 has to research his next topic, I've lost the sheet and can't remember what it is

uDD Yr 5 has no homework set over the holidays
BUT has been given homework during the year Mon - Thur due back the next day since yr 2. This has varied in length each year. Now usually 30 - 45 mins per night + spellings, timestables & reading expected, although we no longer due these every night, usually twice a week then at weekends.

Seems a lot to my friends at different schools but because it's built up gradually over the years it's the norm for us. I like the fact that it has to be in the next day as means you can't put it off.

DD2 is in Yr6 and is supposed to have done 15 minutes SATs revision daily. She hasn't done any, because I allowed her to go to the revision club which the school ran the first 3 days of the Easter break. That was on condition that she did nothing else - she needs a break. It isn't homework and won't be marked so that's fine. She goes back to the grindstone on Wednesday.

So far this year she has had about 40 minutes' worth of homework a week, about the same as in Yr5. It's been less than that recently, but what there has been, has been relentlessly SATs focused.
