I got my email saying that they don't have place in any of the 4 schools which we applied to , and they offering us a place in the new school (it's opened last September ) and it is GLF school. This school is the farthest from us, and as it is new school it hasn't got OFSTED yet, I don't know anyone from this school, and I really don't want my DD to go there. What shall I do?? I am so upset and lost as I didn't expect at all that she will be refused all four schools. Help please

I would start by taking a look at this school. You may be pleasantly surprised. You should also make sure you are on the waiting list for your preferred schools. You can appeal for your preferred schools but your chances of success will depend on whether or not it is an infant class size appeal. It will be infant class size if admitting your daughter will result in a class with over 30 children at some point when she is in Reception, Y1 or Y2. Infant class size appeals are very difficult to win - you have to show that the admission authority has made a mistake that cost your daughter a place or that they have acted unreasonably. If it is not an infant class size appeal you have a better chance.

My neighbours' DS going to Glyn which is part of the GLF. Glyn has an impeccable reputation, Ofsted rated as outstanding secondary school not long ago. GLF is involved not only in opening new academies but also helping raising standards of satisfactory schools (I hope I am correct). Not sure what school have you been allocated? Cordwalles Junior, Danetree, Glyn, Lime Tree, Marden, Springfield, Warlingham, Windmill and Wheatfield?... all part of GLF (Grow, Learn, Flourish) Academies. I will suggest you visit the school before making your decision. In my area, GFL seems to do really well at the moment spending quite a lot in improving standards and also increasing budgets for building extra classrooms and opening new schools too. Down my road there is a new school (not part of GLF) which was rated Outstanding just two years after opening. Visit the school I will say.

I was in similar situation five years ago. Even worst! We didn't get a place at all! Then they offered us a place at a satisfactory school which we accepted, and after two months, a school place offer arrived at our second choice! Do not panic. Many people will refuse some offers, some will decide to go private, some people might move so you will see that things will get better, but please be proactive and keep calm. Take the place but ask to be on a waiting list. We were added to a waiting list anyway. Good luck and keep us updated if you feel like.
