1980s day - any cheap and easy ideas?

Please, wonderful creative mners... DS is in reception and I'm struggling for ideas.

For dressing up? I would fashion a rubicks cube costume out of a cardboard box.

Or neon clothes?

Cut sleeves off an old sweater for legwarmers, sweat bands etc, big box painted up as ghetto blaster. Bright non matchy colours and stuffing in the shoulders; think fresh prince etc...

A big white t-shirt with 'Frankie Says ...(insert whatever you like)' stencilled in large black letters.

From looking at my 'bottom infants' class photo from 1983, I'd recommend that he wear very short, shorts with either a hand-knitted jumper with geometric patterns, a furry sweater or an Adidas-style shiny tracksuit top. Ideally, lots of orangey-red or else browns and blues. From the photo, it seems important to have collars so pointy that it is possible to impale a classmate upon it.

A charity shop should be able to supply something suitable. Failing that, search online for retro or vintage boys' clothes - eBay seem to have various suitable items for not very much money.

Don't go, teachers' strike. :o

Something brown and knitted or a garish shell suit (going by my own childhood photos!)

Shirt and braces if you can get hold of any (oh, hang on, unlikely for reception age). Legwarmers, sweatband /headband would work too.

Does DS have a pirate costume?

If so - get some face paints and send him looking like Adam Ant.

Just need a straight white stripe across bridge of nose & high cheek bones.
