Chiswick primary schools

Hello,

As many of you (from what I read), we are moving from Chelsea to Chiswick in a month's time. My daughter is currently in reception and the commute will be far after the move so we are looking at state schools. We are wait listed in a few, including Belmont and St Mary's. We are in the catchment area of William Hogarth but not too keen on this one from what I heard. We are looking for a very good state school primarily, with mixed communities (my daughter's current school is excellent although kids are mostly from muslim or caribbean origin, which we wouldn't mind if the overall class was mixed but do mind as we are white and she literally has nobody else white to relate to!), yet balanced. We are French but have lived here a long time. Can anyone give us some advice please? We are looking at Grove Park Primary school. Any thoughts about this school? I read a lot of Strand on the Green. Anybody there? Many thanks!

Grove Park has just been rated Outstanding by Ofsted and it genuinely is just that. School going over to 2 form entry and I believe Reception isn't full.

I don't think there is a bad primary school in Chiswick! All have the ethnic mix that you mentioned. Even friends at William Hogarth are very happy there.

No. Grove Park has just got an Outstanding from Ofsted. Inspectors were in two weeks ago, report now published, Cooking. Worth reading it. You can pick it up either on the Grove Park website or via Ofsted.

I stand corrected - Sorry! That's fantastic especially when they are undergoing such expansion. It's not a bad thing chosing between good and outstanding schools in this area!

Strand on the Green is fantastic. Amazing pastoral care.

Is it just me who is somewhat offended by this statement?

Dear me. Perhaps you should do a walk around of all the reception classes of the Chiswick schools and do a head count of all Caribbean and 'Muslim' origin children to help you decide. By the way, what exactly do you mean by that? Muslims come from all over the world and originate from every country, even France believe it or not. I'm afraid there are Muslim children and children from the Caribbean in pretty much all Chiswick schools.

I'm not sure you would have the pick of all the schools in Chiswick as they tend to have waiting lists so you pretty much have the choice of the one nearest to you until a space opens up.

We are very lucky with our primary schools in Chiswick and any one of them would be a good choice for your child. I am wondering exactly what you have heard about William Hogarth? It is a very good school and I wouldn't discount it.

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback! We have been offered a place in Reception at Grove Park and yes, you are correct, they just got rated outstanding by the Ofsted visit 2 weeks ago! There are only 7 places left now and I was told that was only the case b/c they recently went to a 2 form, so they should go fast!

@RussianBlu - sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone and I was raised in a state school so I have absolutely NO issues with a mixed ethnic class... But her current class is not mixed at all and I actually have found it a challenge for my daughter to socialise in as other parents have a very different culture. Not mean to be offensive, it just is the case.. So I want to make sure she does get a very balanced mixed set of school friends so she can make her own friends and socialise...

Re: William Hogarth, my husband has visited the school and reported it was not very mixed either.. Not saying anything about the quality of the school at all there either...

At the end of the day, everyone must go with what is right for them, no? We visited Grove Park and met with the Head teacher and it genuinely felt like a very warm school.. If anyone has children there, would love to hear if my impression is right!
