Commuting to schools north west London

We are looking at primary schools for DD in Hampstead / Belize park / Highgate areas but currently live in W9. I'm just wondering if that commute is doable either driving or public transport or school bus. Or if it's best just to move into the area?
If driving what time do you have to get into the area to get parked etc?
Can a child in reception realistically get a school bus?

I'd move! Traffic is hideous pre and post school.
We had a couple of 40 minute journeys just from west hampstead to swiss cottage after school (which is about 2 miles).
