how much should I help DD with her homework?

DD is 5 and we've suddenly gone from 1 or 2 word answers in a box on a work sheet to making up sentences using her spellings.

It is a pretty good attempt considering she's 5 and its the first time she's written anything this length but there are some mistakes. She's used all her spellings and got them right, some of the other words aren't spelled how they should be but they make sense phonetically (i.e wen instead of when). There aren't any full stops but she has used a capital at the start of each sentence.

Am I supposed to go through it with her and help her correct her spellings/punctuation, adding a note to tell the teacher I've done this, or do I just send it in how it is?

I would send it how it is - the focus is on her spellings and as you say she has got those correct and the others make sense phonetically I would leave it.

I think you send it as it is. DD2 is in reception and sometimes I have written next to her work what she says it says as it isn't always clear but otherwise it goes in as it is.

Yes, she could do it better if I helped her but tbh it would then not be a reflection of what she can do on her own.

Yes send it in as it is.

You could have a conversation with her along the lines of "Well done, you've used capital letters at the start of all your sentences. Now, can you remember what we put at the end of sentences? yes that's right! Full stops. Where do you think we should put the full stops in your writing?" So she is still doing the work but you are prompting her. I would literally just do that for one thing though. Don't worry about the spellings for now, phonetically plausible is good
