What's your experience of free schools (primary)?

If all goes ahead, DD will have the option of starting reception in a brand new free school. Her year will be the first intake in 2015. I'm really excited by the idea but as she's our PFB, we're a bit clueless on the subject.

My plan is to attend all the info sessions I expect they will do (?!?), go and visit all the other schools near by, talk to loads of people and then I guess follow my gut instinct. Our local one has not confirmed the exact site yet. It could be a fantastic opportunity.
