Just wondering why YR is based on 40-60 months assessments, which is such a broad range.

And what about Sept born YR children who are now 65 months?

It's 40-60+ months and then ELG most settings will then break this down into emerging, developing and secure in the band.

and it overlaps with the previous banding of 30 - 50 month which overlaps with 22-36 month

What is ELG?

Early Learning Goals.

It's what children should achieve/be well on their way towards achieving by the end of Reception. They continue to work on those they haven't met during the first part of year 1.

There used to be an expectation that children would show evidence of meeting most (but not all) of them by the end of reception under the old Early Years Curriculum. I'm not sure how much that expectation has changed with the new one.
