my children are still babies but have many friends who have been doing 7 and 4 plus - it seems the children who got places in the top schools seemed to be the ones whose parents had been to Cambridge or oxford? Anyone else noticed this?

Those who get in at 4 or 7 are those who have been trained for the tests, either by going to a preschool that does it or to a tutor. Nothing to do with the parents university.
