York House School (Rickmansworth/Croxley Green) - Advice please!

I am thinking of sending my daughter to York House this September, reception class. I absolutely love the school but my only concern is the unproven secondary school success for girls. They have excellent success for the boys. The other choice is Charlotte House Prep School.

Does anyone have any experience of the school with girls?

Sorry no direct experience but I hear such good things about York House, when the time comes I will be considering it for my youngest (a boy). I hear it is a very happy school and very nurturing, good pastoral care etc.

I know it goes up to 13, but in the past before they went mixed, and in recent years before girls have reached Year 6 did they prep boys for 11+ as well as 13+? If so, that should give you the answer as to how successful they are at 11+ albeit only for boys. If they didn't then not sure what to say really...have you discusses the subject with the Head? How endemic do you think outside tutoring/prepping is in the school?

It is a fantastic school and the head is is great. Senior school success for the boys is excellent. Such a big decision to make! My thinking is that the same should apply for the girls when the time comes. The head is very confident about the success for girls and they have already developed relationships with some fantastic independent girls' schools.
It's always good to hear from current parents plus I'm probably answering my own question!

I know that in DS1's year at WBGS, about ten boys came from York House at the beginning of Y7, which is a high proportion from one prep school. I also know a boy who stayed at YH until the end of Y8 and then moved on to Merchant Taylors. My god-daughter went to York House for a while, but moved to a state primary in Y1.

Charlotte House is also supposed to be good. I only know one girl there but she is doing very well.

They were happy with it and the decision to move her was due to other factors. She is at DAO now, so all worked out well.

My DS goes to York House.

I think both schools have a nice friendly feel. York House is bigger and with slightly better facilities but up to 11 that might not make too much difference.

Do you want mixed or girls only?

Tigerrsc- I think for senior school an all girls school would be more important. I'm very confused as on another post a user posted some very negative and defamatory comments about YH (they have a son there). I want a school where she will reach her full potential and will end up at a good senior school, possibly a top state school. I really don't want to make the wrong choice.

We always worry. Thats what being a parent is about. Well that and hugs……

If I were you I would ask the school if you could talk to the parents of the girls further up the school and some of the parents from the girls in reception. You could get a better idea of how they are actually finding the school.

In terms of moving on at 11, ask Mr Gray how he is going to prepare the girls for entry into state schools (WGSG or other) and how he is going to prepare them for entry into private schools. What actions are they going to take and when will they start the preparation for the kids for Verbal reasoning, non verbal reasoning etc etc etc

Hi everyone,
I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you can help me.
We considering YH and Orley for our son. I love Orley however a bit worried it has became a "status school" ( although a lovely place ) but it's very close to us, 10/15 min drive.

YH on the other hand is very nice ( I prefer this school) however we live in Pinner and my only concern is commut 20/30min.
Most of our neighbors go either to Orley or Northwood schools. Will he have friends in the area as in play dates, birthdays and how many children come from our side ( Northwood, Pinner Eastcote) ?!

Any information on both schools would be very much appreciated. It's a very big decision for me as I have another little boy and want them potentially to be in the same school.

what do you mean by "status" school?

Hi i am also looking at yh for september start and am really confused between st martins northwood and yh. I like the fact that yh is co ed and that it focuses on all aspects especially the outdoors. We are also based in harrow and would love to hear more from parents who go from here.
