Scottish schools follow the Curriculum for Excellence. You can google it and get a heap of information regarding it's ethos etc. with regards schools, in Scotland you are allocated a school depending on the area you choose to live. You become part of the catchment for a particular school and it is assumed your children will go there. If you do not want them to attend their catchment school, you need to apply for a placement order requesting the school of your choice, however, you will only be allocated a place at your school of choice if there are places available.

I think your 2 kids are young enough to be able to slot into the system and the teachers will quickly asses to see if there are gaps in their knowledge on any of the topics they are covering. The majority of primary schools in Scotland are good and there is no testing at 7 or 11. Secondary school is completely comprehensive so all abilities catered for in every school (well in theory, anyway). Hope that helps.
