Hi all,

We will be moving to UK soon. I wonder what the primary state school hours are.

Thanks :)

9am - 3/3.30pm

500internalerror · 19/01/2014 18:31

They vary, but around 8.45am - 3.45.

hippo123 · 19/01/2014 18:31

Ours is 9-3 for infants (4-7 year olds) and 9-3.20 for juniors (7-11 year olds).

500internalerror · 19/01/2014 18:31

Ours are 8.50 till 3.35.

hootloop · 19/01/2014 18:32

8:30 to 3 here.

pussycatdoll · 19/01/2014 18:34

We can drop off from 8.40am - 8.55am when the bell goes & anyone after that is marked as late
School finishes at 3.25pm

Breezy1985 · 19/01/2014 18:37

Ours is 9.10 - 3.30

scaevola · 19/01/2014 18:37

And if you mean 'what hours can I leave them on the premises', it can vary even more. Ours lets you drop KS2 from 8:15 no charge, just short straw on duty staff in playground) and then there's a paid after school club until 6pm.

NotCitrus · 19/01/2014 18:38

8.55 to 3.15 for us, age 4-11. You can't drop off until 8.50 unless you pay for breakfast club, which only starts at 8.30. After-school club runs until 6.

MirandaWest · 19/01/2014 18:39

Ours are 8:55 until 3:20

Pooka · 19/01/2014 18:41

8:50 - 3:15 for reception year
8:50 - 3:20 for years 1-6

Can be left in playground from 8:40 when 2 teachers supervise.

Years reception - 2 have to be collected from teacher (I.e. teacher brings kids into playground and then the teacher looks out to make sure parents/carer there before child can go. Older years can just leave and find parents themselves. Mostly don't leave the site on their own until year 5/6.

Pooka · 19/01/2014 18:42

We have paid before and after school club.

IrisWildthyme · 19/01/2014 18:52

Ours are 8:40-3:10 (but you aren't "late" unless you arrive after 8:50) for the main part of the school day - buildings open from 7:30 for breakfast club. If your child signs up for a specific after-school activity these are until 4:15 (but you'd never be allowed to sign up for one on every day of the week) - there is a separate off-site afterschool childcare option which runs till 5:30.

I think the answer to your question, OP, is that it completely varies school-by-school. However, there are a lot of options for working parents so you will be able to sort out your weekly schedule one way or another once you know which school you are dealing with.

CatAmongThePigeons · 19/01/2014 18:55

Ours is open from 8.45-3.15 with a breakfast club from 7.45 and am after school club until 6.

lougle · 19/01/2014 19:01

The regulations which prescribed the school session times for schools were revoked in 2011. So schools are free to set whatever times they feel appropriate, as long as they give notice to the parents.

In practice, teachers are only required to be available for around 6.5 hours per day, so the school day isn't practically able to be longer than that, unless they employ more teachers.

noramum · 19/01/2014 19:07

infant school: 8.55 -3.15

The doors open at 8.45 and you can then leave the playground if you saw your child walking in.

Junior school next door: 8.45 - 3.30 they still line up and walk in when the bell goes at 8.45.

That state school, public fee laying ones are often longer up to 4.30pmisch

Nesime · 19/01/2014 19:14

Thank you very much :)

After school clubs finish at 4.30pm

youbethemummylion · 19/01/2014 20:16

8:45 to 3:20
Breakfast clubs from 8am or 8:30am
After school clubs i.e karate/football etc until 4:20 but these clubs do not run for every year group everyday so cant really be relied on for proper after school provision iyswim would have to get a childminder if couldnt pick up at 3:20
