I read that they had booked the holiday because the older daughter's behaviour and school attendance was dropping and they wanted to give her a boost - by dropping her attendance further! Seemed like an excuse to me.

Meh, they took them, they were fined. You don't want to run the risk of a fine, don't take them out of school.

I heard it was because the dad couldn't get time off during school holidays and they missed out on family time.....

I agree with Galena, lesson learned.

There are people out there who would like to remove their Dc due to family members final hours and they are refused...so it doesn't happen, now that would be worth going to court for.
