sports day, in this heat?

every year it seems to be on an absolutely baking day, on a field, with no escape from the hot sun.
surely this is not good?
i mean, who wants to run around like a loon in this heat?
it would even be a bit better if they did it first thing in the morning but no, it's at 1pm and my kids like many others don't enjoy it.

Luckily, our local school is more sensible - sports day always starts at 9.30am and is at end of June when weather is not always so warm.

Mornings would make much more sense regarding the heat. No way I'd want to be dashing about in this heat today. Even DD is flagging a bit after a morning playing outside with a firend. She's just come in for a fe minutes shade time and lunch.

I suspect schools have them in the afternoon so that the children can go straight home afterwards, as they'll be wound up and over excited by the end of it and it might make for a hectic afternoon.

just found the other thread about this.

my mother has decided to phone the school and voice her concerns about it all. oh god

i know, i posted on the other thread that they sould do it in may/june, there's too much already on the last week of term, apart from the heat.

We're in Scotland so our end of term sports day is in June. We always do sports day in the morning but more often than not it's cancelled due to rain!!

It was foracset to be 32C in the shade on the afternoon of the sports day, so they did the sensible thing and moved it to the morning. A lot of parents were annoyed as they had made arrangements to get time of work (it was the first sports day for some of the children).

Forecast changed and got rained off by a mega thunderstorm 30mins in. Kiids were OK as they got them in before the rain started be all got drenched walking/running home.

Would have never have been able to do it that afternoon because the field would have been so wet though.

Stiff upper lip, empire, right stuff etc.

Won't have any of those if sports days is cancelled. Come along now, line up, no fainting at the back.
