Especially if you are non teaching. I'm interested in this area after years of mainstream class teaching and wondered how you find it. My head is happy to put me forward for the course if I wish but I don't want to do it and then realise I hate it!

I'm a SENCO but I also have a full time teaching commitment. I enjoy the role but it is lots of extra work

I'm not a SENCO (thank God!) but in our (very large) school, we have someone who is out of class for 3 days a week to cover it. Except, even so, she is on her knees and drowning in the paperwork. It's not even just the paperwork (e.g. four statement applications going on at the moment) but all the meetings, acting as line manager for all the TAs, overseeing all intervention strategies and so on...
Don't know how you could possibly manage it, mrz, unless you have a very small school. And even then...

250 pupils so not very small clam [exhausted sigh] I'm also literacy & KS1 lead & Child Protection [zzzzzzzz!]

That's insane! Of them, not you. We are 2 form entry, Nursery to Y6, so around 480 kids. Leafy home counties, but lots of 'needs.'
